'Jolene' by Beyoncé vs. 'Jolene' by Dolly Parton
Beyoncé’s “Jolene” actually has a more threatening tone than Dolly’s original 1973 song. While the original song pleads for another woman to not steal her man, Beyoncé takes it to another level so that the woman doesn’t even think to go near her man.
“I’m warning you, don’t come for my man,” Queen Bey croons. She turns it up even more with lyrics like, “You don’t want this smoke so shoot your shot with someone else,” “I’m still a Creole banjee bitch from Louisiana’” and “Your peace depends on how you move, Jolene.”
