Did you ever think a movie set in the 1880s could hugely inspire us with its fashion as much as Poor Things does? Bella Baxter, played by Best Actress winner Emma Stone, has an eccentric Victorian-inspired wardrobe and it’s motivated us to dress playfully and take more fashion risks. After the film’s costume designer Holly Waddington took home an Oscar for Best Costume Design, the internet became even more obsessed with Poor Things fashion

Waddington told The Telegraph that she drew inspiration for Bella’s outfits from her toddlers. Specifically, how they rambunctiously run around with either no pants or their pants on their head. As Bella grows and transforms, her outfits become more sophisticated and dark. Her fashion evolution throughout the film is seriously inspiring and it mirrors how our wardrobes often reflect the phase of our lives we’re currently in. Right now, we’re in the “obsessed with Poor Things” phase of our lives.

While Poor Things takes place in the 19th century, Bella Baxter’s fashion is far from outdated. She’s often seen in ruffles and puffy sleeves, which are both staples for big fashion houses like Giambattista Valli (which Ariana Grande wore to the Oscars) and Alexander McQueen, among others. While those seem like extravagant elements to incorporate into your everyday wardrobe, Bella Baxter does it effortlessly and in a way that feels natural to her. She’s a weird character, so it makes sense that her clothes are weird too.

After seeing her run around in such lavish outfits, everyone has become obsessed with Poor Things Core and clothes that explore femininity in the same fun and unapologetic way Bella does. We could all channel Bella Baxter’s carefree spirit in our outfits and take our personal style a little less seriously.
